Her father worked as a used car seller. Her mother emigrated from Germany into the United States as a young woman in the year 1958. She had been diagnosed with breast carcinoma in 1989. Handler's dad was Jewish so she raised up Reform Judaism. Handler was raised in a safe area and was a very happy child. Her move from the city of her birth to Los Angeles when she was 19, in order to pursue a career in acting. To help support her family, Handler began to work as an actress. Handler made the decision to pursue stand-up acting at the age of 21 when she recognized her storytelling skills. Handler began her stand-up career becoming a member of the only female Oxygen cast, which was a part of a television show called Girls Behaving BADLY. This series was known for its hidden camera as well as humorous jokes. This reality TV show ran from 2002 until 2005. The handler appeared in several shows, including Weekends at D.L. The Bernie Mac Show The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler has also worked as a correspondent for The Tonight Show. Handler received her first big break in 2006 when she began running her own talk show for E! known as The Chelsea Handler show. The show ran for two seasons. Following the show, Handler performed on the Comedy Central's Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour in the United States. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend (and HBO) have shown her stand-up performances live. In 2010, she hosted the MTV Video Music Awards 2010 were revealed. As a result, she was the only female host to be announced in the same category as Roseanne.
